Hm. Opinions needed.
Oct. 6th, 2005 10:00 pmThe sentence which follows is taken straight from Politics, Power and the Common Good: An Introduction to Political Science, by Mintz (yes, Grenfell people, THAT Mintz), Close, and Croci. I'm thinking it's an unfortunate, accidental word substitution, but I'd like some opinions on it before I commit what it's saying to memory, as it completely changes the meaning of the clause. (bolding mine)
"On the far right, liberal anarchists take the classical liberal idea of laissez-faire to what they see as its logical conclusion: the provision of all government services by a free marketplace, the right to use one's private property with restriction, and the elimination of taxes."
I'm thinking they mean 'without', but I'm no political scientist (don't ever want to be one, either. I like to know this sort of thing because knowing it makes me a more responsible citizen, but if I ever write a textbook -if I ever write anything - this stultifyingly boring, thwap me over the head with something, please.)

Date: 2005-10-09 07:43 pm (UTC)first time I read it thought that it was using 'one's' as in another person's property in a responsible non destructive manner... ie 'borrowing' someone's lawn mower...
however they are talking about using ones own property and therefore...
just be afraid and go with me here...
they could be talking of slavery and using a human slave as a person...
at that point though you could also fight for the regulation of steroids usage within foul, fish, and beef farms.
as well as requirements from the usage of other products to protect thy neighbor... you can't store propane tanks within an apartment, proper warning on 'bug bombs' so your neighbors don't inhale, hey even the limited regulation of cigarette smoking to outside could be part of their thoughts on the whole regulation issue.
Ummm. and I've seen some of your poetry... its definitely not the hit you over the head with a dropbear or dwarfbread variety of things...
Oh and of course their always the fear of sheep shepards abusing their 'property'.
I know back in the luggage...
yeah I know back into the cupboard...
