framlingem: (dangerous.)
Has anyone on here been to Prince Edward Island (not to be confused with Prince Edward's Islands, which are an archipelago off the coast of Madagascar)? My friend Mariko and I will in all likelihood be heading there before the month is out, because a) road trip! and b) neither of us has ever been there, and that seemed reason enough, and we'd like to do things that don't involve either Anne of Green Gables (I never liked Anne very much. Emily of New Moon was much more interesting.) or potatoes (I do like potatoes very much, though.)

We're calling it the cliché-and-stereotype-free trip.

She won't have had time to read the new Harry Potter book, and I won't be doing any of the driving (it's a van, which I dislike driving, and it would also be a pain adding me onto the insurance for a week and we're neither of us dumb enough to have an uninsured driver driving), so on the way up I am going to read aloud and hope my voice holds. It should. I've only ever lost it once, and that was after my first two GBS concerts, which were two nights running, with time spent in a very smoky bar between-times. I have reserved the right to stop if my throat starts to hurt.

She and I are also planning a month in the UK in summer 2007, with the only restraint being that I need to be in Yorkshire for my grandmother's birthday. I have people who wouldn't mind putting us up for a couple of nights from Aberdeen to Dorset; I think the only places we'd have to pay for a bed would be in Wales (because I want to see Caernarfon again very much. Also hear that accent. Man, is a Welsh accent lovely.) and in London (and Pax Lodge in London is ideally placed, cheap, and provides breakfast and good company - I stayed there once. Have any of the Guides on my flist ever stayed there? I think the next Centre I want to stay at is Sangam in India - might see if I can't get a job there for a year or so after I graduate. Would, however, have to develop a tolerance for Indian food, because my tastebuds are wimps. Our Chalet might be a better idea.), during a whole month.

We travel together well, Mariko and I. We're very different, but in a complementary sort of way - we laugh a lot when we're together. In fact, travelling together is how we met. She was my roommate/seatmate all through my trip to China in 2000 (wow, was it that long ago?), and we really clicked. She is one of two people I've ever heard my Mum describe as a poppet, which is not the term I'd have used as it's a bit sweet and cutesy for Mariko, but whatever. On the China trip we wrote a comic strip together about 'what the Emperor does when nobody's looking', involving all these undignified, non-Emperor-like activities like seeing how far away an urn has to be before he can't spit into it. It was funny, but alas, has been lost to the sands of time, otherwise known as Seoul airport where the notebook got lost.

I seem to have got off topic. Anyone know about PEI?
