Owowowowowowowwwwwww... *snif*
Dec. 28th, 2002 08:06 pmThis is going to take me forever and a day to type!
At work today, I was under the impression that it was going to be a Good Day. There was exactly the right ratio of customers:employees, I'm leaving for Britain on Monday, Christmas was good, I was in a good mood, and Female Boss wasn't there. (Male Boss is much much easier to work for - he doesn't hover!)
Then it got busy, which wasn't so bad. Then I (without looking) grabbed the wrong coffee-filter-holder - the one with hot water dripping through it, not the one that was ready for emptying like the one I thought I was grabbing. Meaning it was full of coffee grinds soaked in boiling water, so they slosh around. I was in a hurry, so I was moving pretty fast, and yup, they slop over the edge and coat my hand.
The thing about spilling coffee on yourself is that it's not that bad, because liquids don't retain heat as well as solids. They cool off pretty fast. These things stayed hot during the ten seconds it took me to yelp, realise why I was yelping, put the coffee filter-thing back so I didn't make too much of a mess, get to a sink, and get the cold tap on with my hand under it.
Driving myself to a clinic counted in my list of Not Fun - it hurts to even bend my thumb, never mind the temperature changes from Hot Mall to Cold Car to Colder Steering Wheel.
End result - first and second degree burns all over the back of my right hand and fingers, down to about two inches of my wrist, and between my fingers where it sort of seeped down. The worst bit's down my thumb, where it's blistere. I'm typing this one-handed, and it's not even my main hand.
I have an antiseptic cream thing which I'm using, and painkillers - which I'm not, for a couple of reasons. First of all, they aren't topical, so they'd impair all my functions. Second, it's bearable, and I want to be able to monitor it - if it stops hurting for no apparent reason, or if it starts to hurt a whole lot more, something could be wrong, so I'd like to know.
Carting luggage around on Monday is going to be hell. Good thing I heal fast!
I think I'll go feel sorry for myself now. :(
