I think I may wind up writing fic for Naruto. Specifically, Neji!fic. There's so much untapped angst there. *grin*

In other fic related news, I know a bunch of you are Shakespeare aficionados, and I was hoping you could help me out. Someone (either [livejournal.com profile] krislaughs or [livejournal.com profile] hansbekhart, I've a terrible memory) made a Harry Potter/Shakespeare challenge, and I've nearly got my story ironed out, but something's missing. Did any of Shakespeare's tragic women die protecting someone? Or even die 'for family' in general? I've got this really cool concept, but that one thing is missing.

As it is the two-hundredth anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar today, I really should update my historical Gundam Wing AU about it. But honestly, it's been more than two years and I STILL don't have any clue how to get my protagonist out of the jam he's in, short of deus ex machina pirates, which would be cool, but somewhat jarringly out of place, like the llama in Troy.

There was a llama in Troy? How the flying heck did that get there? Little llama-ey wings?

I'm so glad I didn't watch that.

There was!

I was all "cool market scene... cattle...people...camel...cool...waitasecondthatthere'sallama!"

Not many llamas in ancient Greece.

Hmmm... Juliet - I suppose. Not strictly but enough other parallels for you to be able to pull it off.

There is a lot of very interesting family related stuff in King Lear you could use as well.

I considered Juliet, but she's not quite what I'm looking for - too young, for one thing, and she died at her own hand. I'm looking more for someone who got killed by someone else for 'noble family related purposes' (a Lily parallel. I was trying to be cagey about it, but I think I should probably have been more specific.)

And hello, I don't think I've seen you here before. :) Pull up a chair and have some chocolate milk (or chocolate liqueur, or anyt other drink of your choice)!

Oh, and I'll reread Lear. You're right, there's a lot of interesting family stuff in there which might prove useful.

I didn't make the challenge, but I'm racking my brains nonetheless. And what about Lavinia, of Titus Andronicus? She was raped and her tongue was cut out, and her father Titus killed her so as to end her shame. Would that work? I don't remember any women getting killed during Richard III, but wasn't one of them going to sacrifice her daughter through marriage to Gloucester?

Hm. Not Lavinia, I don't think. I'm looking for proud and defiant rather than pathetic and grateful.

I do love Lavinia, though.

No Way!!! You're actually ironing a story out?!>! I hadn't even set a challenge date until sometime in the distant New Year.

Ironing out, as in I have five totally random sentences jotted down that I quite like, and have got everything pegged except for Lily.

No promises, though :p I have so many document files with five random sentences that sound good and follow a theme, but never get turned into stories.

Although in this case, one of them is the last sentence in the story, which is usually a good sign for me, as all of my fics-that-get-written started with the last bit, or a climactic one, like "He died. He fell. I didn't." in "Liberation".

Have a sample from the middle-ish bit of the story:

"You too, Peter?" says James, right before there is a flash of light and he falls.

(see the Shakespeare paralell? *grin*)
