"Icarus"

If I had wings
I would fly away across the world
and break my neck
on a plateglass window in Tokyo;

If I had wings
I would fly to where the air is thin
and suffocate and fall
(a splash quite unnoticed)

The sun cannot melt me
for there is no sun bright enough
but I would fly
If I had wings.

(w. apologies to

W.C.Williams for stealing one of his lines)

Which line is borrowed?

Because this poem... is brilliant. Seriously.

"A splash quite unnoticed". From "Landscape with the Fall of Icarus", which is one of my favourite poems (and, in fact, the poem I plan on using for the Saturday poem this week).

LOL I like this one. I have many days like that myself; love the idea of flying across the world to smack into a glass tower in Tokyo.
