Dec. 25th, 2004 09:52 amI woke up this morning (am currently avoiding dishes from pancakes and sausages), and it was sunny AND snowing lightly. The sun had just risen, and the sky was gold and blue.
Father Christmas was good to me this year. (I'm surprised he came, honestly - maybe he knows I never really got past the age of six.)
(These lists are as much a reference for me for thank-you letter writing as anything else)
- socks. That matched! YAY!
- a chocolate orange
- Pocky (It said 'men's pocky'. What's up with that?)
- a chocolate Christmas Tree that was like one of those puzzles where you have to roll the balls around into holes, but made out of chocolate. Yum.
- three bottles of Cadbury hot chocolate (one plain, one orange, and one Dairy Fudge)
- really pretty earrings; sterling silver hoops with a turquoise (coloured - it's glass, not actual turquoise) bead.
- lots of samples for laundry detergent. *g*
- body wash, which is nice as I've nearly run out
- other Useful Things like post-it notes (flower shaped! Cool!)
So that was nice. Mum and Dad got stockings, too, which was cool. (Three cheers for my little sister for notifying St. Nick!)
From Mum and Dad: Money towards the purchase of Faramir (aka new computer)
: FIREFLY on DVD. WHOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!
: A subscription to ANALOG magazine. Again, whoooooo!
: I am also told I will be getting a new three-in-one jacket, as mine is 'disgusting' according to Mum.
(wow, that's a lot. *is grateful*)
From just Mum : A really sappy book of poetry written by people whose kids have moved out, titled 'To my Departed Child', which sounds a
bit like I've died, really, but it made me shed sappy tears and things. Mainly because of the note she wrote in it.
*snif*
From
lifelongmanic: SOCKS! With Eeyore on them, and ROO! There's never anything with Roo on it, and he's my favorite. Yay!
From Auntie Pam: Really soft blue scarf and matching gloves, and a very cute teddy bear brooch.
From Auntie Alison and Uncle Mark: $40 (already spent on that pair of boots)
From Aileen and Johnnie (great-aunt and uncle on Dad's side.): $60 (again, already spent on boots)
From Grandma: $50, all but ten of which has been spent on... boots. (I love my boots).
From
quiva, a copy of this year's "Poet's Market", which is really, really cool and elicited many squealy noises. That is REALLY, REALLY cool. You get to choose a poem for me to try with. There'll be a list with links up when I get back to Corner Brook.
THANK YOU!
From Kate and Matthew (cousins): Writing paper and two of the big-size Bournville bars. This is my very, very, very favorite kind of chocolate. It is sheer ecstasy. Mmmmmm. The writing paper's got really cute puppies on it, but the chocolate is great :D Also, a keychain with their pictures on it, which is great because I didn't have very good pictures of them. Kate's the typical eight-year-old, all gangly and growing, with freckles on her nose, while Matthew (who is three today!) is still blond and blue eyed (most of my family start off that way - I did), with the most amazing dimples. He is SO cute.
Mum and Dad were really happy with the Bill Bryson book, and the signed Dale Jarvis book. (There's a story behind that gift, which makes it special). Nicki liked the computer game and bottle of lime cordial, I think :) I'm hoping so, at any rate - the game doesn't seem to be running very well for some reason.
This afternoon we're going to Christmas Dinner witrh the McK's, which will be weird because a) Malcolm and Susan McK, who I grew up with and can't remember Christmas Dinner without, EVER, won't be there. Malcolm's spending it with his fiancee Val's family, and Susie's in Scotland. Second of all, we're going out rather than eating at one of the houses. And where are we going? Best pizza place in town. It's a very classy pizza place (well, it's an Italian restaurant, but the pizza is to die for). We're having turkey for New Year's.
I'm off to write letters, sew a button back on to my coat, and watch my Firefly DVDs. I really do like Christmas, despite all of the stress coming up to it and the overcommercialisation. It's such a warm, quiet sort of day for me.
I love you all. Happy Saturday.
