First, some information about me physically. I'm short and stubby. This includes my feet. They are very wide for their length, and deep in terms of instep.

This makes buying shoes that aren't sneakers extremely difficult. TO whit, I have been trying to replace my trusty Mary Janes for over a year, as they were looking scruffy, and two months ago they gave up completely, spontaneously developing holes all over the place and leaving me with no shoe dressier than a walking boot.

Today, I went to a high-end sort of shoe place in desperation. I really hate paying that much for shoes, but I was really at the end of my rope. (Sign of my psychology - I have no problem with plonking down a hundred dollars for Merrell trainers or hikers, but dress shoes?) It turned out the woman on staff was the mother of two girls who were in my Sparks unit. She was all helpful and wonderful, and recommended "Clarks" brand shoes, and found me a pair of shoe shoes.

I was nearly in tears. They actually went onto my feet without digging into my bones. It's been years. They didn't hurt. They looked pretty. It's such a stupid thing to be so happy over... but they fit. Nice shoes fit onto my Shrek feet.

I bought them (well, Mum did, because she owed me money and this cleared it), and also a pair of ankle boots (also Clarks). I've never, ever had ankle boots before - not dressy ones. I do have a pair which look like I could kick someone's head in with them, with tread thicker than snow tires have, but none with heels.

I have 'nice' footwear. I may be in love with it.
