1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
I went to a convention. I went to THE convention. :D I also lived in a non-dorm that wasn't my parent's place, and had a full-time job for a bit. Got... slightly inebriated ;) Admitted my sexual orientation to myself and to a few others (to sum up - "I would do anything for love, but I won't do that.")

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Nope, I didn't, but I keep resolving to not procrastinate in the hopes that this year I'll get around to it. (Honestly.)

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not that I know of.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Er. I'm not going to answer that one.

5. What countries did you visit?
The USA.

6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
I hate questions like this, because I really can't think of anything. I would like a copy of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony on CD, but that's about it, really. And a decent non-dress winter jacket.

7. What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Labor Day. Because dude, I met Terry Pratchett.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Having the courage to participate in the poetry slam at Worldcon on first night. There were PUBLISHED poets in the audience. With, like, books out. Having the self-esteem which makes this question easier to answer than the next one.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I don't know. I think this year went pretty well. Except I think I have a cavity in one of my uppr left molars.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Well, there's a week at the end of November which is a complete blank, during which I attended one class and apparently was told by the prof to 'go home before you pass out in my class'. But I don't remember feeling particularly ill, as such. Don't remember anything, really, though, so I wouldn't go by that.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My mousepad with a picture of the Death of Rats on it, holding up severed computer mice. It makes me snicker every time I look at it.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My friend Ashton.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Heh. Do you really need to ask that? Fred Phelps, as usual. The idiot in Alabama who is trying to get literature with gay characters who (gasp!) don't go to hell banned. Dubya. The people who convinced people that their vote didn't matter.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, books, music, food.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Crush show. Moving to St. John's and living with someone I really like and admire. BiS show. WORLDCON! George Street Festival.

16. What song will always remind you of 2004?
"Little Hitchiker", by Brothers in Stereo, because I heard it first this year and it has become my theme song. Also, "Forca" by Nelly Furtado.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
poorer
fatter
happier

:)

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
laughed more. Not that I didn't laugh, but I think laughing more can never be a bad thing.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
writing angsty poetry and lj-posts at three in the morning, because dude, nobody wants to read that.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With my family and my adopted family, having punning contests and laughing at how my paper crown falls down over my face while Uncle Ken's has to split to fit on his head at all, hugging my little sister.

21. [like last year, there is no question 21]

22. Did you fall in love in 2004?
No. I could have, but I didn't.

23. How many one-night stands?
None

24. What was your favourite TV program?
Scrubs. I love Scrubs. oh, and Extreme Home Makeover, sobbing my eyes out with [Unknown site tag] and laughing about how we'd need more kleenex.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope. The hate has increased, but still the same dude.

26. What was the best book you read?
Goodness. I read an average of a book every two days, and you ask me that? *ponders* Rob Sawyer's Neanderthal Trilogy ("Hominids", "Humans", and "Hybrids").

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
The PUNTERS! DUDE!

28. What did you want and get?
A good summer.

29. What did you want and not get?
A job which needed me to spend time outdoors, a part in the Vagina Monologues.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Yeesh. Probably "Shrek 2".

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I ate Caribou stew in a pub on Water Street with my mother, and I turned twenty.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Suddenly winning the lottery ;)

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
Same as usual - jeans, t-shirts/blouses, trainers.

34. What kept you sane?
Mostly, the people who are reading this. My headphones which help me shut the world out when I need to.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Johnny Depp.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Civil rights regarding marriage. Environmental policies.

37. Who did you miss?
[livejournal.com profile] lifelongmanic, [livejournal.com profile] scrunchions. My Auntie Pam. Grandma.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Wicked :) M.L. in St. John's.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you earned in 2004:
I am

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

"Greg he writes letters, with his birthday pen; sometimes he's aware that they're drawing him in... still, pretty good year" ("Pretty Good Year", by Tori Amos.)

also

"Lived a good life
Lived a sweet life
Oh, I’ve had the sun on my face
I have fallen to my knees and been amazed
I have walked beneath the brilliance of a perfect sky

Oh I am saved
saved

Lived a good life
Lived a sweet life
Oh I have a beautiful friend
I am breathless from the mercy of a smile
I am standing on the brink of the most perfect love

Oh I am saved
saved

I am saved
I believe
I am not
Going to be
Like I was, I have changed
I am saved

I have bitten off the pieces that I did not want
I have torn them into tiny bits of rain
Oh the sun has dried those memories like I knew it would

Oh I am saved
saved

I have bitten off the pieces that I did not want
I have bitten off the pieces that I did not want
Yes, I am saved"

-Saved, by Jann Arden, who as always provides the soundtrack to my life in nearly all of her songs.

Yeah, well, people have generally overestimated my age by ten to fifteen years, so hey, take it as a compliment. ;-)

Oh, I'm not offended, don't worry. (You will find I am extremely difficult to offend, mainly because I think everything is very funny ;) )

Just surprised, considering the content of my journal which seems to revolve around exams and school-stuff.

Maybe it's because I actually bother to spell things right, capitalise, and use punctuation? ;)

Hey, I started college at age 23. ;-) I've only been out for 18 months or so.

Maybe it's because I actually bother to spell things right, capitalise, and use punctuation? ;)

I think you just identified a major part of it!!

Fuckin' Terry Pratchett? Dude.

Was Kidby anywhere around? Those sketches are ace. I hate him for it.

No Kidby. :(

Terry Pratchett is very cool. He signed my mousepad, and I joked about how I'd now be the envy of all my friends, and he said "oh? You have friends? That's so nice."

:D

I also met Neil Gaiman, Larry Niven, Rob Sawyer, Bob Eggleton, Tanya Huff, and was on a Junkyard Wars team with a Real Rocket Scientist.
