Dec. 9th, 2004 12:48 pmGood news :) The Canadian Supreme Court has ruled that the definition of marriage as 'the lawful union of two persons' does not violate our constitution. It also decided that clergy should have the right to refuse to perform homosexual marriage for religious reasons - which is fine. I wouldn't force a Muslim to eat pork. (I know the two aren't quite on the same level, but frankly, I wouldn't want to be married by someone who believed my marriage was an abomination anyway).
Surprisingly enough, the Apocalypse failed to arrive.
Thanks to those of you who sent me encouraging stuff last night. I never know quite how to reply, so I'll just say thank you very much and offer hugs all round.

If you're really serious, I could put you in touch with her.

Date: 2004-12-09 08:41 am (UTC)I still can't believe that Bush won over some moral indescretion... and an invalid one at that.
The people that voted for him want someone in the White House that stands for morality? Why the fuck did they vote Bush, a former junkie and alcholoic whose two daughters don't exactly embrace the ideas of temperance, either. Not to mention selective memory when it comes to the fact that Cheney's daughter is gay.
Sometimes I wish the Bible was never written. Most of that didn't come from the horse's mouth anyway, from what I've read.

Date: 2004-12-09 09:08 am (UTC)My opinion of the Bush administration is not repeatable in polite company. (It uses a lot of sign language. Very simple sign language, easily understood by most people who drive cars.)
The Bible is a very effective guide to maintaining and increasing a population. It is an excellent survival guide for the Middle East as it was thousands of years ago. Some things in it simply aren't relevant anymore.

Actually, I shouldn't be asking you, because I should actually be the one who knows U.S. law. :-P
