So. Exile.
Dec. 6th, 2004 03:38 amThis is an exceedingly pretty game. I like the video sequences, but then, they've been stunning in Myst and Riven as well, so I'm not surprised.
What have I accomplished in an hour of gameplay?
Well, I read Atrus' journal (v. important for a sense of What Things Are and What Has Been Going On), failed miserably to prevent a theft and arson (not my fault, it was a preset video sequence) and subsequently to catch the perpetrator (again, not my fault as the damn man disappeared three frames into the Book). I've also solved a ridiculously easy puzzle which was obviously designed to instill a false sense of security in me (whoo! I moved the giant ball out of the way so I could look down an elevator shaft and agonise over the switch I can't reach and the the dangly object which I CAN reach, but which does not do anything at present. Presumably because I haven't switched the switch yet.), and come across one which promises to be mind-bogglingly difficult. I've been cackled at. I have figured out how the elevators work, and am now stuck in one. I have a horrible feeling that as soon as I break out of the elevator, the villain is likely to put me in the cage he called up.
I have also got the beginnings of a map, figured out part of the numbering system - and am hoping it works progressively like the D'ni one in Riven, because I figured that out fairly easily. But then, I have six symbols in this one so far, of which two are certainties (definitely a one and a five) and one is a maybe (possibly a seven if the book had no pages missing). If indeed it is 1-5-7, would be inclined to think prime numbers are important, except pages two and three weren't labelled.
I have also made a point of Noticing Things, like that round symbol that looks like an abbreviated peace sign which is popping up everywhere, even in the latticework, and the three horn things which go from short and blunt to long and pointy. Just in case they're important.
Oh, and I figured out that something is a rudimentary electromagnet, and have concluded that ENERGY is the important thing in this game. (As opposed to STEAM in Riven.)
I am also probably completely wrong about everything so far.
This is great.
