Apr. 10th, 2009 11:32 pmAt work, in the nighttime, it's really quiet, and in-between-calls I've been tutoring a co-worker in the basics of French verbs. She's doing really well. She actually does know most of it, she just sees it and freezes and overcomplicates things, so I've been breaking it into little chunks. (Find the verb in the sentence. Underline it. Okay, good. Now, who is doing the verb? Great! Okay, NOW take the verb out of the sentence. Find the root. Chop off the rest. Add the ending. Done!) It seems to be working. She's a lot more confident, and getting 8 or 9 out of ten right, rather than panicking and trying to conjugate nouns. She's also doing it all herself - I'm not really even having to talk her through the thought process, except in a couple of cases, which are honestly issues with not having done it enough. I've suggested she go home and get her boyfriend to drill her on the irregulars, because those you just have to memorize.
