Please, as soon as possible, if you haven't already, get that carseat inspected to be sure it's properly installed. I was recently reminded of how many aren't (not in a work context, thankfully - I don't know if I'd have been able to handle that), and how awful the consequences can be. http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov will have details on how to go about it for the Americans, and I imagine police stations worldwide would be able to hook you up. It takes about twenty minutes and is usually free.
