Dec. 1st, 2004 10:38 pmHm.
Am compiling a list of poetry journals, in the crazy idea that I might get published in one of them and actually (gasp) get some money. Although, since the going rate appears to be ten dollars per 'feature' (which can be anywhere up to ten poems, it seems) plus a copy of the magazine, I have a feeling postage might wind up costing me more than I wind up making. 0_o
*note to self - learn how to write thrillers with lots of sex so can get paid decent advances plus royalties and maybe even movie deals like Michael Crichtonwho has stopped writing books and now produces thinly-veiled screenplays*
Most poetry journals (at least, those with webpages furnishing details on where to send things) seem to be in the United States.
In order to submit items for publication, I am well aware that one must include a self-addressed stamped envelope. This may be an issue, as I do not live in the United States and thus cannot simply nip down to the post office and buy the correct postage. Is there a place online where one can order international stamps? I'd try eBay, but since most of the stamps on there are collectibles, it seems a bit silly. (Plus, Dad is a philatelist, and I would NEVER put a collectible stamp on an envelope, no sir. Even if Dad does like them postmarked, most people don't.) Failing that, is there a system in place at post offices where you can say "I'd like return postage included on this, please?"

Date: 2004-12-01 06:30 pm (UTC)Also, if there's any sort of store that sells collectible stamps (or maybe even stationary/business supplies), there's a chance they sell 'current' normal US stamps too at close to their face value.
Lastly, you can get an 'International Reply Coupon' from any post office, which let the person at the other end exchange it at their post office for return postage, but the downside is because they're not country-specific they cost a *lot* more than 60 cents US (several dollars?). Okay option in an emergency, though.
Good luck! :)

Date: 2004-12-01 07:49 pm (UTC)I'm not sure if they ship stamps to foreign addresses.
The ones that allow mailing stuff to Canada are the 60 cent stamps. That's for a letter-sized envelopes.
I actually was thinking of buying some holiday-themed stamps for my Christmas cards, so I'll let you know if they ship to foreign addresses.
Failing that, you could send me money to buy you a sheet of 60 cent stamps and I'd buy them and mail them to you. I think that there are 20 stamps on a sheet, but I'd have to check that.

I have different-looking 60c stamps that I like better, but I can't find those online.
And yes, they do allow shipping of stamps to other countries.
