(no subject)

Holy shit, you guys, I just found out that I'm getting an honorarium from the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council. For something I was thinking I was going to do for free. Not that I mind getting paid, but wow.

I'm getting paid. For poetry. The mind boggles.

This isn't even something I applied for! This is something where the organizer thought "who'd be good? Em! Em would be good. I'll ask her."

The noises I am making right now are causing dogs to bark.

Academic etiquette

So, people more immersed in academia than I am, I have a question.

There's a gentleman who is one of the loudest voices about a subject I've been pretty interested in this semester (Canadian short fiction), and he's made a fairly sweeping generalization about the subject, which I disagree with. I'd like to ask him about it. Would it be polite, if I can find contact information for him, to e-mail him and say "I came across the following statement by you in this article, and I'm not sure I agree, because of these works which I would consider to be shining examples of bla bla bla. I'm curious as to why you excluded them from the genre?"

Edit: E-mailed him. Wonder what will happen?
