(no subject)

Every so often, as I have just done, I write some long impassioned screed about an opinion I hold on a matter which affects a lot of people (in this case, it was the language of demographics when referring to cultural groups). Then I look at it, think to myself, "if I post that, it will make me look like an asshole, and with good reason", and delete it. (File this under the category of "freedom of speech includes the right to shut up".)

I think the internet would be a better place if more people did that more frequently. If I ever miss one on the filtration process, please do let me know. I'm capable of distinguishing between friends telling me "that was a dumb thing to say" and friends telling me "you are dumb".
