Things I Am Looking Forward To In 2009
Mar. 7th, 2009 09:39 pm1. Seeing my dad again. I haven't seen him in two years. That's far too long.
2. Seeing my sister again. I haven't seen her in nearly as long as I haven't seen Dad. Our reunion will take place at Liberty Airport in Newark, and then we will go Adventuring!
3. Seeing my mum again. It will have been a year.
4. Quitting my job at the call centre and going back to school full-time. (Though not with a full courseload; I think I'll be better off doing three courses and doing them well than I will be doing five. I'm also switching my major from Environmental Studies - the bachelor of arts - to Environmental Science (Chemistry), the bachelor of science. I LIKE science. I'm interested in everything, but I realized how much I've been missing the "what happens if I do this?" part of learning. Added bonus: much transferrable credit!
5. Spending Christmas with my family. My friends are lovely, but I don't like Mum being sad at me over the telephone.
6. Seeing my oldest niece again (she'll be nearly three!) and meeting her little sister for the first time.
7. The next Harry Potter movie. Yes, yes, shallow.
8. WORLDCON. There are some writers going who I did not know last time I went, when it was in Boston, and I want to meet them and tell them how much I enjoy their work, and hopefully not be too creepy/stalkery. I'm also really hoping that I can convince my dad to come in on a day pass. He wasn't going to, but then I mentioned that there might be panels about Doctor Who, and he perked up. "Does that include Torchwood?"... yeah. I think I've got a shot.
9. Seeing some folks I haven't seen since high school - people I actually got along with. There are a whole bunch of people I've reconnected with on Facebook who all want to get together while I'm in Montreal, so I'm thinking barbeque.
10. Speaking of which, BARBEQUE! My family, and my adopted extended St-Bruno-British-ex-pat-Pratt-and-Whitney-1984 family are going to have a barbeque to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the week we all came to Canada. There will be photo albums, oh yes, which might be a bit embarrassing as I was in diapers at the time. But hey. Good food, intelligent company, and there's something nice about people who knew me before I knew me.
