In which junk mail gets it WRONG.
Jun. 6th, 2008 02:02 pmThere is an email in my inbox with the subject "Emily, your Dad will love you if you get him this for Father's Day!"
No. No he won't. He will not love me because I buy him presents. Electronics will not make him love me.
He loves me because he is my DAD, and I am his DAUGHTER. I know this because when my mum was in England, he wrote me an email and mentioned he hadn't been home when I called last week, and he'd be at a car show on Saturday, but home on Sunday. I know this because when I left home, he told me not to let anyone take advantage of me. I know this because he sends me photographs he's taken of the fox in the woods and of birds at the feeder.
He will not love me IF I give him a present. He will love me either way. If he didn't, then a present wouldn't change that. Yes, I'm giving him a gift for Father's Day (which he'll be opening for his birthday on Monday - it's a Nice Gift and is for both occasions), but that's because I love HIM. There's no "if" about it. Screw you, junk mail.
