Movies, movies!
Jan. 8th, 2008 08:47 pmI took myself to the cinema on Sunday. (I don't know why some folks hate going alone. It's not like you can talk during the movie anyway, and there's something really cool about being alone with a whole other load of people and the story. Aaaanyway.) I saw "P.S. I Love You" and "Sweeney Todd", and liked them both very much.
PSILU is the chickiest chick flick I have ever seen, but if you're someone who doesn't mind seeing a chick flick, I recommend it. It's sad. Boy, is it sad. I don't recall ever having cried for an entire movie before. It's as sad as your average English folk song (the kind with true loves drowning in ponds and pining away at gravesides and whatnot). But the ending isn't as predictable as one usually gets with a chick flick, and the romance is lovely and joyous, and it's funny, and the soundtrack is awesome. I was going to buy the soundtrack, in fact, but then I realised I already owned most of it. (Think Flogging Molly, and lots of the The Pogues.)
As for Sweeney, well, it was Tim Burton, so I knew I was in good hands. The singing is surprisingly good (I'm not sure why I was surprised; I've seen "Crybaby", I knew Depp could sing) and the lighting is fantastic.
Yes, the lighting. I'm a nerd. I know.
