With regards to rugby:

One of my favourite Youtube videos is of the All Blacks doing their haka, and being answered by the Tonga team doing something very similar back.

When told that England might be playing New Zealand in the World Rugby tournament this year, my first mental image was of them answering the haka with a dance of their own. Unfortunately, the dance my brain supplied was a Morris Dance, which is quite neat, but somewhat less than intimidating and warlike.

I have a hat.

Not just any hat, oh no. This is a chocolate-brown felt cloche, with a very thin leather band with a gold (well,gold-coloured) clasp.

It's awesome. It's been far too long (a whole year!) since I've had a new hat.

The only reason I would want to live in a past time would be to have hat-wearing be a convention rather than an exception. It's such a shame that bare heads are the norm; hats are wondrous things, and in some cases deliciously silly. Witness, for instance, the bicorne in this icon.

(I voted today. Hoorah for securing the right to complain. I'm content with the results of our political election, even though the PCs aren't my favourite party - on a federal level, they're not even in the top three. Danny Williams does a good job of looking after his people, I think. I hope he proves me right.)
