Sep. 4th, 2006 01:42 pmBy now you all probably know that Steve Irwin died in a freak stingray accident (the ray spooked, Irwin's heart was in precisely the wrong place at precisely the wrong time). He wasn't my favourite TV host, but I have a feeling I'd have liked him very much in person.
(I am somewhat ashamed to admit my first reaction wasn't 'Oh no!', but rather, 'what, it wasn't a crocodile or a snake?')
He did a lot for conservation both financially and in the way I would like to do a lot - by making people aware of just how incredible the life on this planet is, and why it's worth looking after. Much respect, and much sorrow for Terri and their two kids.
He got to make a living doing something he cared about, and loved. Lucky guy.
