I am rapidly becoming a Sudoku addict. I've been printing puzzles off of the internet, but I think I saw a whole book of them for two dollars or so at Coles last time I was there. I need to go Christmas shopping anyway, so I think I'll drop down and see if it's still there.

Sudoku=fun.

Utterly masochistic, frustrating, eye-straining fun, of course, but still fun. Anyone else like sudoku?

I bought myself a toy today - a headset! Whoo. I'm quite in love with it. The thing that prompted this purchase was http://www.skype.com , a VOIP my mum and aunt are using. The theory is I'll save money on long-distance (can't lost money once I'm past the fourteen dollars the headset cost me - it's free!).

If any of you wish to sign up and talk to me and stuff, I'm framlingem :) Love to hear from you. Especially [livejournal.com profile] scrunchions, who I haven't talked to in forever and a day and whom I miss. (This is Entirely My Fault for not having phoned her when I know her number perfectly well, it having been _my_ number too for a bit.)

About a month ago, I bought myself a copy of Diane Duane's So You Want to be a Wizard and read it in one sitting (I know there was someone on my flist who was all about the series. Who was it? Ash?). Today I bought the first two of its sequels, Deep Wizardry and High Wizardry.

I just finished Deep Wizardry, and Diane Duane has joined Michelle Magorian, Lois Lowry, Madeleine L'Engle, and S.E. Hinton in the group of "YA authors who have brought me to helpless sobbing in the corner for sheer sorrowful joy".

Books that make me cry, and why )

Katherine Margaret Anne T------ was born on Tuesday, November 1st, to my mother's cousin's daughter Kathleen and her husband Euan. Her big brother Matthew is thrilled.

I'm thrilled too. Kathleen and Euan are two of the best parents I've ever met, and they'd been trying for another baby FOREVER with no success and a couple of miscarriages before this pregnancy happened. So now I've two cousins Kate - odd how that happens. One of them is my aunt's kid, though, so a slightly closer cousin.

They sent me a picture and she's beautiful in the way very tiny babies are - that is to say, small and scrunched and red and not very human-looking, but full of hope and potential and sweetness. Chubby cheeks and wild ginger hair which seems to have styled itself in a mohawk. Awww.

I love my Scottish relatives - haven't seen them very often, due to their living in Scotland (Prestwick, in Ayrshire), but they are wonderful. Pat makes (officially - they've won prizes) the best whisky truffles in Ayrshire, John's been restoring a Humber to all its glory for longer than I've been alive (and finished a year or so ago - I am SO getting a ride in it next time I'm over :p), and their four kids (Kathleen, Anne, George, and John) are all such cool, smart people. They're all fiddle players, too.

What a great bunch of people for a little girl to have as family.
