Mar. 7th, 2005 12:47 amPossible jobs for this summer:
Interpreter at the Biodome: cool, and I'd be good at it, but a painful commute from St-Bruno.
Working at LaRonde: possibly mind-numbing, but fairly close and easy to get to.
Retail: Would really rather not unless absolutely necessary. I hate folding things.
Summer Student Worker at Pratt & Whitney Canada: probably ideal. It's a program for employees' kids, and Dad's been there quite a while (although there are rumours of nepotism - er, that goes beyond hiring employees' kids, that is - and corruption). Plus, I actually have a bit of engine knowledge (as in, I get the joke that says "I'd rather suck and blow than twist and crank") and have a history of getting on well with aerospace engineer type people. Plus I've done office work before and take good notes, and fit the requirements (must be employee's offspring, older than sixteen for office work and eighteen for shop work, and be enrolled in a full-time program of study. Not difficult, really.), and also have a good variety of jobs on the CV - customer service (phones), food service, office work (courier and advertising), and childcare (figure that'll be useful if I'm dealing with MechEs :p Actually, one of the available jobs is in the employee daycare)
For some extra cash, I'd be interested in translation work - I seem to remember one of you has done Japanese-to-English work. Do you happen to know if the same people are looking for French-to-English? (I'd go the other way, but my written French is not up to the task)
I want to make some money this summer. Next summer, I'm tempted to apply to Natural Resources Canada as a firetower-type-person; I wouldn't really mind the solitude, and they pay very well because of isolation. Hopefully I'd draw an area where it rains a lot ;)
In other news, I keep getting spam that reads like a real email that just got sent to the wrong address. It's freaky.
