Into the wild blue yonder
Dec. 30th, 2002 01:09 pmThis is probably the last chance to write here before I leave to catch my flight (Air Canada 864, for anyone who wants to track me across the Atlantic - ie, no-one! lol), so I'm doing it.
My bag has been packed and unpacked (thrice) to make sure it still contains everything it did the previous time we unpacked it.
Multiple copies of ticket receipts are included, so I should be able to get places without too much hassle. I'm not worried - I love airports! They're fascinating places.
With a bit of luck I'll have a seatmate who'll want to chat a little, but never mind. I have cds (a healthy collection of Great Big Sea, Our Lady Peace, and Kate Rusby), and copies of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings to keep me company, and there'll be an inflight movie. I should probably sleep on the plane, but I won't. I always get the 'whee, I'm flying, look at the clouds, wonder what this button does, look my seat goes up and down!' excitement thing. The flight to Korea when I was sixteen was thirteen hours long, and I didn't sleep a wink. I'll sleep during the six-hour bus ride to Leeds from London.
Do you think the flight attendant'll let me see the cockpit, even though I'm all grown up? Crayons are probably too much to hope for.
I love flying overnight - I did ask for a window seat, and I hope I get one. Clouds lit up by the stars are beautiful, wondrous things. I wish it was the sort of thing you could take pictures of through airplane pressure windows. The way back should be neat, too - icebergs!
On the other hand, they could put me next to a wing, and then I could watch all the flap systems working and try to work out exactly what the pilot's doing and why - slowing the plane, speeding it up, banking - it's so cool.
I LOVE flying! (Bet you didn't guess that one... lol)
(Is there a frogicon for 'airborne'?)
