Penalty shots.
Jun. 24th, 2004 08:17 pmI can never decide whether I like penalty shots or not. Ringette ones I like well enough, because as a goalie that was one of my strong areas.
Football ones, on the other hand (and yes, I'm calling it football, because when I've been watching it I become an English expat, as opposed to a Canadian who happens to come from across the pond originally. Besides... it's played with the feet.), I don't know. I've just watched one of the more dramaticly-ending games I've ever seen, England against Portugal. It had some dry spells, but the last forty-five minutes of play were so tense! And then it went to a shootout!
I'm very disappointed in Becks, but my personal favorite England player scored twice (once three minutes in to regular play, and on his penalty shot), which makes me slightly less miserable about the eventual outcome of the game. Portugal played excellently, and their goals were beauties... but I wanted England to win.
*snif*
Oh well. I shall now cheer for Portugal, because I do like it when the home team wins (if mine can't).
