Well, my province has its first female premier. That is not a bad thing. What is a bad thing is that the woman in question is a bigot who wrecked the ministries she was in charge of before; what is a bad thing is that while we've never met individually, she hates me and mine, along with everyone in my gloriously diverse neighbourhood. And while we've never met, so I can't say I hate her, I detest what she stands for and her stated goals, which are, as far as I can tell, intended to make non-francophones so uncomfortable in Québec that we leave it.

At least it's looking like it's going to be a minority government. I can't find it in my heart to be glad Mme. Marois is heading up my new provincial leadership, but I hope she proves me wrong. I don't think she will.

How long will she actually be premier, though? Turn on the news...

Looking from afar, it seems that the one saving grace is that she didn't receive a majority. I hope that's enough to curb her (and her party's) worst influences.

Also...I don't know enough about the smaller parties to comment, but...I have to wonder if this going to be a stable enough government to survive, or whether the minority will inevitably fall, and another election within the next year is likely. (Although, maybe I should read some, before I start with the uninformed speculation.)

If she gets what she really wants, her own nation, how will Quebec support itself? Quebec receives the most $ from the rest of Canada. And really, you are welcome in Ottawa if she does drive you out ;)
